Water Baby

So I haven't been swimming lately which makes me sad but unfortunately life has gotten in the way and it happens to be in a horrible time frame for me. Also it unfortunately has lost some of the fun and appeal that I was going for when we started. It was supposed to be a group thing that we had fun doing together and helped keep each other motivated. It has since turned into a we see each other right before we get in the pool and then every one goes to a different lane and swims as hard as they can for as long as they can. Which I suppose is good for the whole working out thing but bad for the actually having fun as a group thing. The first few times we went we all swam together and we stopped to laugh about being out of shape and high five when we would get farther than we had. Now that's all gone. But that isn't really what I wanted to blog about. It was just a rant that spilled out when I started writing about swimming. Ok, enough of that and on to the real thing...

I am a water baby. For as long as I can remember I have been happier in water than out of it. I began swimming when I was teeny tiny and have loved it ever since. Moving to Washington from San Diego has been a bit of a downer for the water baby in me because there are a ridiculously lower amount of pools and those that are around are really only usable for about two and a half months out of the year. The exception to that is of course like a gym or something which isn't much fun for when you want to just have some fun but definitely good for working out. But either way up until recently I haven't been swimming very often. And one of the things that I forgot about was that first time you go under water, place your feet against the wall and PUSH with all your might! You go swooshing forward like a mermaid and the joy and exhilaration hit you and its like being a little kid all over again. Then once that split second is past there is the fun and excitement of seeing how far you can go before you surface. Oh my goodness it may be one of the best things ever! It's kind of hilarious though because now every time it happens somewhere in between the first push and the see how long I can stay under I have this moment of feeling like this:

Where in reality I'm pretty sure it looks a bit more like this ;)

But that's ok because it still makes my heart sing and it's about as close as I am ever going to get to my goal from when I was little....
To be the Little Mermaid :D
